What To Expect

1

Day 1 - Day 01: Barkot - Haridwar

Banao Yatra Yatra representative will meet you at the train station after your train arrives at Haridwar. While in transit, we will stop at Kempty Falls and the Satya Narayan Temple. Following your arrival at Barkot, check into the hotel or campsite. Afterward, you may spend the remainder of the day preparing for the trek to Yamunotri – which sits 6 kilometers above sea level. While in Barkot, dinner will be served, after which you will spend the night in the hotel.

Weather in Barkot: Average summer temperatures linger between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius; Winters, however, are far chillier, particularly during the night when dips to as low as 5 degrees are not unheard of. It’s best to bring warm clothes.

2

Day 02: Barkot - Yamunotri - Barkot

  • We will be leaving for Jankichatti after breakfast, during which you will be given a packed breakfast. Trekking to Yamunotri, a 6-kilometer journey, can be done by foot, horse, or doli at an additional cost. Afterwards, we will make our way to Jamunabai Kund, a hot spring where one is able to bathe and pay homage to Yamunaji before heading towards Jankichatti. Following your stay at Jankichatti, we will head back towards Barkot.
  • Yamunotri Temple was built in the 19th century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur. It was destroyed twice in this century but has been repaired. At Yamunotri, the Tapt kund has hot water, and one can cook rice by putting it in a cloth and dipping it into the hot water. The pilgrims then take this cooked rice as `Prasada` back home. Here near the temple, `Puja` can be performed to Divya Shila. The thermal spring that feeds the hot water Surya Kund is considered the most important one. Pilgrims can take a dip in the other pools, too, but this is the most vital one.
  • Yamunotri Weather: During the colder months, the temperature ranges from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius. Though the days are enjoyably warm, the nights tend to be a bit chilly.

Day: 3 Barkot – Uttarkashi (100kms/4hr)

  • Head out from the hotel in the morning to grab some breakfast before heading to Uttarkashi for your next check-in. After arriving in Uttarkashi and checking in, make sure to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Overnight stays will be at a hotel in Uttarkashi.
  • This northern part of India is referred to as **Uttarkashi,** and here you will find several ashrams and temples located right next to River Ganga.
  • Vishwanath Temple: Located in Northern India, Vishwanath Temple is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was reconstructed in the ancient architectural style by Maharani Khaneti Devi of Tehri State in 1857. It is located in the center of the town. Since times immemorial, a heavy iron trident, symbolic of the divine mother, has been erected and worshipped in the temple complex. The rest of the temple complex comprises shrines dedicated to Ganeshji, Sakshi Gopal, and Markandeya Rishi. Special Aarti is performed at dawn and dusk, as well as Akhand Jyoti and Akhand Abhishek. According to Skunda Puran, Uttarkashi is known as ‘Saumya Varanasi’ in the Kaliyug, which is the abode of Lord Shiva and is one of twelve Jyotirlingas.
  • Shakti Temple: In Shakti temple, which stands directly opposite Vishwanath temple, there exists a large ‘Trishul’ (Trident) that is about 6 meters tall with a base circumference of 90 cm. While there are several opinions regarding its construction, the upper portion appears to be made of iron, while the lower portion is constructed from copper. It is said that this Shakti was cast on the devils by the Goddess Durga (Shakti), and Shakti is attached thereafter. It is said the Shakti located at this site serves its purpose from that point onward. Uttarkashi Weather – The summer is generally hot here, with temperatures ranging between 30-35 degrees Celsius, but nights are nice and cool. Winters here, however, are much colder.

Day : 4 Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi (100kms/3-4 each side)

  • In the early hours of the day, we need to leave for Gangotri and have breakfast while We travel. Our first stop will be at a temple at Garam Kund, where we will take a holy dip and offer prayers. After that, we would travel through the beautiful Harsil valley, which further leads to Gangotri. Harsil is known for its natural beauty, especially the Deodar trees, mountains, and sundry flowers. Upon arriving at Shree Gangotri, We will perform the next step by dipping in the Ganges River. People also call the river Bhagirathi, where it starts from. After completing the prayers, I will relax at the location for a while before heading towards Uttarkashi. Travel time from Uttarkashi is around three and a half hours. For the night, we will stay in a hotel in Uttarkashi.
  • Gangotri Temple: Commonly referred to as the Gangotri Temple, which was constructed on the right bank of Bhagirathi, it is the temple that was built by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa back in the 18th century.
5

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi: 220 kilometers (8 to 9 hours drive)

  • Moolgarh and Lambgoan are the two places we would pass this morning as we drive to Guptkashi after breakfast. While you are driving, you will see the magnificent Mandakini River at Tilwara. The river comes from Kedarnath, and on your way to Guptkashi, you will see Kedarnath Temple. You will also visit Ardh Narishwar temple in Guptakashi. After arriving at Guptkashi, you check into a hotel for an overnight stay.
  • Guptakashi: Guptakashi means ‘Hidden Benares’.As per history, When the Pandava brothers were in search of Shiva, Shivji first came and concealed himself at Guptkashi. However, he was later chased down the valley to Kedarnath. Most of all, the local Kedarnath pandas (priests) spend the winter in Guptakashi. Marvelously, after the Kedarnath temple closes, the idol of the temple passes by Guptkashi on its way to Ukhimath, where it winters.
6

Day 6 Guptkashi – Kedarnath (30 km by road & 19 km Trek one way)

  • After breakfast, Move to Kedarnath Dham. Enjoy Kedarnath Darshan. Overnight stay at Kedarnath Govt. Guest House. By Helicopter – Firstly, your driver will drop you off at your pre-booked helipad. You can notify the driver about your arrival time, whether by helicopter or by trek so that the driver can pick you up. *Helicopter ticket is not included in this package *
  • By Trek – Your driver will transfer you to Sonprayag, and then you have to take a local jeep to Gaurikund. From here, your trek starts in Kedarnath via Gaurikund. After Darshan, you will follow the same way and return to Sonpraag. Due to the immense parking shortage, drivers will have to return to another place if their contact number is not working, meaning drivers will need to assist waiting taxis or other drivers.
  • Kedarnath – The scenic Kedarnath shrine rests beside the impressive Kedarnath range and is believed to be one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Kedar, a name often used to identify Lord Shiva, is also said to be the name used in this region. As per folklore, the Pandavas, wishing to seek revenge on the Kauravas in the war of Kurukshetra, sought to defeat the Kauravas. Since they had killed their brothers, they sought the blessing of Lord Shiva. “Lord Shiv granted him several boons that he was surely seizing to elude. One night, after taking refuge at Kedarnath in the form of a bull, he was set to be captured. When he was pursued, he jumped into a crevice and left his hump on the surface.” As he moved to escape, he repeatedly perplexed them.
7

Day: 7 Kedarnath - Guptkashi

Day seven marks the ‘darshan’ or the visual expression of devotion to the divine. After Darshan in the morning, I will rest and adjust to the Guptakashi region for the remainder of the day. The accommodation I will stay in at Guptakashi is a hotel.

8

Day: 8 Guptkashi - Badrinath (160kms/7hr)

  • After breakfast, depart for Badrinath. The drive from Badrinath to the hotel is around one hour. Pilgrims bathe in the Taptkund and afterward have the opportunity to perform Darshan of Badrivishal & Aarti along with the evening meal. Both Pinddan Shraddh and Brahmakapal for ancestors (Pitrus) are of equal importance. Other useful sightseeing places include Mana, Vyas Gufa, Maatamoorti, Charanpaduka, Bhimkund, and the “Mukh” of the Saraswati River, which are within three kilometers of Badrinathjee. Stay overnight at the Hotel in Badrinath.
  • -Mana Village: The Indo-Mongolian tribe that lives here is the most distant from the rest of India before reaching Tibet.
  • -Vasundhara: This place boasts a waterfall that rivals fame and beauty with breathtaking features. Its lead distance from Badrinath is 5 kilometers, with 2 kilometers motorable to Mana.
  • -Bhim Pul: A natural rock-forming bridge rests above the roaring Saraswati river on the other side of Mana village. Through the narrow gap beneath the rock, the stream plunges violently and presents a breathtaking view, which suggests that Bhim, second in age to the Pandava brothers, used it to travel to the other part.
  • Vyas Gufa (cave) – It is said that Ved Vyas constructed the Mahabharata and the pauranic commentaries in a rock cave called Vyas Gufa, which is located near Mana village.

Day 9 Badrinath – Joshimath – Srinigar (180kms/7hr)

  • Edging closer to their gastronomical destination, Day 9 begins with breakfast before heading to Srinagar and sleeping at a hotel overnight.

It is said that when Raibhya Rishi was doing hard penances, God appeared to him as “Hrishikesh,” and this area hencefirth came to be known as Rishikesh. The first half of the day is to check in to a hotel. Later, visit Rishikesh Temples and Sightseeing – Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, Geeta Bhawan, and Parmarth Niketan. We will stay overnight at a hotel in Haridwar.
  • Rishikesh: Rishikesh is spiritual for Hindus and is named after Lord Vishnu. It is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in northern India. It is one of the most well-known ashrams in the world and is also known as the Yoga center of the world. Rishikesh claims itself as the Yoga Capital of the World, with an abundance of yoga and meditation classes, ashrams, and everything one can imagine. Along with temples and ashrams, Rishikesh is famously known as a white-water rafting destination, a backpacker’s haven, and the starting point of countless trekking routes in the Himalayas.
